Shenandoah Documentary Viewing at the Barn at Stony Brook

A new documentary about Shenandoah National Park is drawing attention to both the extraordinary beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the complicated history behind the park’s creation.

The film, Shenandoah, explores the landscapes, wildlife, and natural resources that have made the park one of Virginia’s most treasured places, while also examining the experiences of the hundreds of families who were displaced from their mountain homes as the park was established in the 1930s.

The Piedmont Journal Recorder recently highlighted the documentary and its effort to tell both sides of the Shenandoah story — celebrating the landscape while recognizing the people and communities whose lives were profoundly affected by the park’s creation.

For those of us in Madison County and the surrounding Blue Ridge community, the film offers a particularly meaningful look at the landscape, history, and people that continue to shape our region.
