June 29, 2026Students Explore the World of Live Streaming and Event Production
The Blue Ridge Center for Music & Creative Arts recently hosted its Live Streaming Workshop for Students, introducing local students to the technology and production techniques used to broadcast live performances and community events. Taking place during the Music & Mindfulness program held at Graves Mountain Farm & Lodges, the workshop provided participants with a hands-on look at the behind-the-scenes work that brings concerts and artistic performances to audiences around the world.

Led by faculty member Chris Heslop, a live streaming specialist with the musicians’ union, and BRCMCA’s Trevor Hogan, the session combined live demonstrations with practical instruction on camera operation, audio capture, streaming platforms, and production workflows. Students gained firsthand experience with the equipment and coordination required to produce a professional live broadcast, while learning how technology can expand access to music and the arts beyond the performance venue.
Throughout the workshop, participants were encouraged to ask questions, explore the production equipment, and learn how the many technical roles behind the camera work together to create a seamless viewing experience. The program highlighted career pathways in media production, communications, event management, and digital broadcasting while emphasizing the growing importance of live streaming in today’s performing arts landscape.
An important goal of the workshop was to introduce students to future opportunities with BRCMCA’s student production team. Participants learned how they can continue developing their technical skills by assisting with live streams of concerts, performances, and community events hosted by the Center throughout the year.
The workshop’s impact was immediate, as participating students went on to assist with the live streaming of performances during the Music & Mindfulness program later that week, gaining real-world production experience while helping make the concerts accessible to online audiences.
The Blue Ridge Center for Music & Creative Arts extends its sincere appreciation to Chris Heslop, Trevor Hogan, Graves Mountain Farm & Lodges, the Music & Mindfulness faculty, and the students who participated in making the workshop a success. By providing practical experience in live event production, BRCMCA continues to expand educational opportunities that prepare young people for lifelong involvement in the creative arts—both on stage and behind the scenes.
